Eric Herman

Eric Herman advises clients on media relations, crisis and litigation communications, message development, corporate reputation, labor and employment-related communications and public advocacy campaigns.

Eric joined Kivvit after two decades as a reporter, including stints at the Chicago Sun-Times, the New York Daily News and the American Lawyer. He spent much of his career as a courts reporter, covering everything from murder trials to celebrity cases to battles for corporate control. He also reported on business, politics, high-profile state and federal investigations, labor disputes and other matters. While at the Daily News, he covered the Sept. 11 attacks and subsequent efforts to rebuild Lower Manhattan.

At Kivvit, he's had the privilege of leading several high-profile legislative campaigns, including the communications team for Illinois Unites for Marriage – the 2012-13 campaign to enact marriage equality legislation in Illinois – and Legalize Illinois, the 2019 state campaign to legalize cannabis for adult recreational use.

He earned a B.A. in English from Northwestern University and a J.D. from DePaul. He lives in Chicago with his three sons.
