Ferguson as a Case Study in Persuasion: Kivvit’s Tracy Schmaler Gives PR Perspective at U. of Minnesota Event
Complex and sensitive societal issues can draw out strong emotions from those with differing opinions — but is there a way to take a more critical look at our own biases and assumptions in order to engage in productive conversations around these issues? Last week, Managing Director Tracy Schmaler took on this question at the University of Minnesota’s Robina Institute event, “Ferguson as a Case Study in Persuasion.” Tracy shared her expertise on conducting productive dialogue and being able to persuade in this age of constant information, open social media platforms and societal divides.
“Where you go and who you trust really matters in how you form your opinion and how firm those opinions really are.”
Tracy was joined by experts in journalism and law, including:
• Matt Apuzzo, The New York Times
• Jonathan Capehart, The Washington Post
• Jonathan Salem Baskin, Forbes
• Hon. Jed Rakoff, U.S. District Court
• Hon. Mark Kappelhoff, Minnesota’s 4th Judicial Circuit
• Commissioner Shawntera Hardy, Minnesota’s Department of Employment
and Economic Development
